Digitalisation has gifted us with a sedentary lifestyle. On top of it, our diet habit has made it even tougher to maintain a healthy way of life. In the name of modernisation, we stuff our body with all sorts of processed and junk food. To quench taste buds we dump our stomach with high calorie sodas, energy drinks, pre-packed juices and sugary drinks. Instead of these, why not we learn to prepare fresh and healthy drink recipes at home.
Here I am sharing few appetising as well as healthy drink recipes. These are quick and smooth to prepare and even easier to consume.
When I tried these recipes, the very first thing that occurred to me was that, why did not I find it out sooner ? Since then I had in mind to share this as a blog.
1 . Lemon- ginger drink
As we all know lemon is packed with vitamin-C which is an effective antioxidant. Basically antioxidant insulates our body from free radical injury.
Furthermore vitamin-C has proven benefit in common cold and cough.
Ginger has a compound named ‘gingerol’. Thus it has anti oxidant, anti inflammatory and anti infection property. Besides, ginger is an age old remedy for indigestion and nausea.
1 . Lemon ( 1/2 of a lemon, thin sliced )
2 . Ginger ( 1 inch, sliced )
3 . Black pepper ( a pinch )
4 . A glass of water
1 . Boil a glass of water for 1-2 minutes. Switch off the flame.
2 . Add thin lemon slices, chopped ginger and a pinch of black pepper to it and cover the lid. Let the flavour assimilate in water.
3 . Leave it for half an hour.
4 . Remove the lid. Squeeze above soaked lemon slices into the same water.
5 . Strain this water with help of a strainer into a glass.
6 . Decorate with few fresh lemon slices, which is optional.
Amount of lemon added depends on your taste and sourness of lemon. I prefer half of a lemon in a glass of water. You can customise it as per your liking.
Take this lemon-ginger water as foremost thing in the morning, for best result. It will offer all benefits of lemon, ginger and pepper. Further water will hydrate you and cleanse excess waste out of your body.
Black pepper is one of the best Indian spices, otherwise known as ‘king of spices’. It posses antioxidant property too.
2 . Cucumber-mint drink
Cucumber is ample in water and low in carbohydrate and fat. Also it is loaded with vitamin A, vitamin K, potassium and magnesium etc.
Cucumber brings down blood cholesterol level. At the same time it’s helpful in diabetes and weight loss. In addition it hydrates body and has a cooling effect too.
Mint is a herb with a refreshing aroma. Soothing effect of mint is because of an element ‘menthol’ present in it. Due to this property, mint is used since ages to counteract irritable bowel syndrome and indigestion.
1 . Cucumber ( half of a medium sized cucumber )
2 . Mint leaves ( a handful )
3 . Lemon ( half )
4 . Water ( a cup )
1 . Peel and chop cucumber.
2 . Add cucumber pieces, mint leaves and water to mixer jar and grind it to fine paste.
3 . Filter the juice through a mesh strainer into a glass.
4 . Squeeze half of a lemon to it.
5 . Put few ice cubes as well.
6 . Garnish it with cucumber slices and mint leaves.
If you have a sweet tooth, then admix some sugar or honey as well. Though I like it better without sugar. Its super cooling and rejuvenating effect is what you would fall for.
3 . Apple-Beet-Carrot juice
It is widely popular as ‘ABC juice’ as per the initials of its constituents.
Apple is an opulent source of antioxidants. Owing to these antioxidants, it acts as an anti cancer and anti ageing agent. Again, it helps maintaining proper weight and preventing diabetes, heart disease etc.
Beet root has a distinct component called ‘nitrate’. Due which, it is advisable in patients with high blood pressure. Moreover it is a convenient source of vitamin C and folate.
Carrot as we all know, is laden with ‘beta carotene’, which is converted into vitamin A inside our body. Vitamin A is an antioxidant and also plays a critical role in our vision.
- Apple ( a single large )
- Beet ( half )
- Carrot ( A medium to large )
- Water ( 1/4th cup )
- Ginger ( 1/2 inch )
1 . Chop apple, beet, carrot and ginger.
2 . Place everything inside a blender along with 1/4th cup of water and blend well.
3 . Now let it pass through a mesh strainer into a glass.
Add ginger carefully. You might not like typical sharp flavour of ginger. In such case use it sparsely or else avoid it altogether.
All the 3 major components of this juice have very little fat and carbohydrate. So you need not worry about calories or cholesterol when you savour this delicious juice.
Often we don’t like to consume few fruits as a whole. However taking these as drink is definitely more palatable. On top of it, adding multiple ingredients In a single beverage increases its nutritive value by many folds.
